Elisabeth is playing in a summer basketball league with her friend Kaydence. She's never played before, but has caught on quickly and is loving it. She and Kaydence are the only girls on their team. Growing up with brothers has pushed them to be as aggressive and scrappy as the boys. They are fun to watch!
Our church hosted VBS the third week of June. There was a huge storm that blew through our area the Saturday night before VBS. We had 100 mph winds which caused severe damage to our area. So many places in our area lost power including us and the church. Nathan and I went to a meeting Sunday evening in the dark church to prepare for the week. There were so many unknowns at the meeting and lots of contingency planning. We prayed for the power to be restored, and our family continued praying all evening. Late Sunday evening it was restored at the church, and we praised God for his provision and perfect timing.
We had a wonderful, tiring week of VBS. The kids learned, grew, played, competed and had a blast. Nathan and I taught pre k missions, and everything went smoothly all week.
Tuesday was crazy hair day!
And Thursday was Team Spirit day. My kids love a good theme day.
Wednesday afternoon after VBS, we spent a few hours at the Newcombs, playing and swimming.
Thursday night was family night, and since the theme of the week was games, they brought in a team that hosted all sorts of silly games.
My kids did their absolute best to try and get chosen for the games, but in the end, Elisabeth was the only one who made it on stage.
We ended the night with popsicles and fellowship.
Since our VBS was only four days long, the Friday of that week, we took a little field trip with some friends to Independence, KS to see a site where Laura Ingalls Wilder lived as a child. The kids got to visit a one room schoolhouse while we were there.
They also got to tour an old post office.
And a replica of the cabin where the Ingalls family lived (also the birthplace of Carrie Ingalls).
Visiting the site brought back memories of a high school trip I took to Walnut Grove, MN with my grandparents. I've always been a huge fan of Little House (the show more than the books growing up, but I've enjoyed reading/listening to the books with the kids).
We ate a picnic lunch on the grounds, and then drove over to a little local zoo/park for the afternoon.
Peacocks are Katherine's favorite animal, and she got to see several of them at the zoo.
There was an adorable little park where the kids played for a bit, but it was hot, so we didn't stay too long before we were all ready to head home.
The girls were all playing outside one afternoon and randomly all found sticks and performed an "elements" show.
They also enjoyed popsicles after a walk around the neighborhood.

We invited the Johnson family over to swim one morning. The girls had a blast all playing together.
Katherine had so much fun she fell asleep listening to an audiobook that afternoon.
The Shondelmyers came over for dinner and to hang out the last Saturday in June. We traded kids for the night when they left so they could all have a sleepover. Nathan and Wyatt spent most of the time on Roblox, but they got some sunshine too.
Elisabeth and Kaydence went home and swam in the dark. Such fun summer memories! They always do this funny little skit called "Let's Split It" They had to film a pool version of it too.
We met back up with them at basketball Sunday evening. Elisabeth went right down the court and scored the first goal of the game, but of course I didn't video it.
