Back in September, I did a series of posts recapping the events of our daily life as a way to document the season of life we are currently in. I decided since this time of year doesn't usually entail many blog worthy activities, that it would be a good time to do another series of those posts. Life seems to change constantly around here. Whenever we get used to one routine, it's time to adapt to another.
Monday was actually a pretty busy day for us. Nathan and I got up around 7:00. I fed him a bottle and he played in the bathroom while I quickly got ready for the day and finalized my grocery list. Then I fed him breakfast (wheat cereal and fruit) and got him dressed. We were out the door on our way to run errands by about 8:15. We stopped at Target to pick up a few things. I usually do my main grocery shopping at Wal Mart, but Target has good sales on a lot of things, and we needed some wipes, baby food and a few other things, including a new toy for Nathan. After Target we went to Wal Mart after a drive thru stop at Sonic. I hadn't slept well the night before and knew I was going to need some caffeine! We bought groceries at Wal Mart, and then came home shortly before 10:00. Nathan fell asleep in the car, so I brought him in and let him sleep in his car seat while I unloaded the groceries. He woke up as I was finishing, and we played for a few minutes until it was time to head to Storytime at the library which is at 11:00.
We met Andrea and Chloe at the library and enjoyed Storytime. Nathan really likes watching the other babies and listening to the songs. It's a fun time for us. He doesn't like to sit still though. He's an active little one and during one of the stories, he took off crawling across the room and ended up in another mom's lap. He sure keeps me on my toes. After storytime, the library lets the kids stay and play with toys that they bring out. Nathan is partial to the bells and shakers. He really just likes to eat them, so I felt like I was constantly pulling them out of his mouth. We made it home shortly before 12:00. I fed him a bottle and his lunch and then put him down for an early nap about 1:00 since he didn't get a good morning nap.
Once he was down, I actually took the opportunity to rest too. I rarely do that, but for some reason I could not fall asleep Sunday night and only got a couple of hours of good rest. I knew I would hit a wall of exhaustion if I didn't lay down when I had the chance. I dozed for about an hour and then had to wake Nathan up at 2:30 so we could go to Judy's house. I meet with Judy every other Monday afternoon. She is a wonderful mentor for me. We just started reading through the book Bringing Up Boys by James Dobson. She has raised three sons, and her advice and encouragement is so helpful to me right now. I really admire her and the way she has raised her family. Nathan is at an age though, where our conversations are not as relaxing and peaceful as they used to be. He will sit and be entertained with a toy for about 13.5 seconds before he is bored and ready to explore something else. Judy kept bringing new toys for him to play with, but nothing would hold his attention for long. I chased after him a lot, but we still managed to have a good time visiting.
We made it back home about the same time Matt was getting off work, and after I fed Nathan a bottle, we took advantage of the nice weather and went for a walk together. When we got back, I fed Nathan dinner and then cooked dinner for me and Matt. We ate tacos for dinner. Matt cleaned up the kitchen while Nathan and I played. Then Matt bathed Nathan and got him ready for bed. I fed him his bedtime bottle about 7:30 and he was asleep by 8:00. Matt and I were both exhausted so we just played on the computer and watched a TV show together before bed. We called it an early night.

January Happenings
January is not my favorite month. It's long, and cold and boring, no
special occasions, not even a real holiday besides New Year's Day which
gets lumped into Christmas celebrations (When I was working full time, I
did get MLK day off, but Matt doesn't, so it was just a normal day this
year). Despite the dreary month, we did manage to find some fun things
to do as a family.
-The biggest event of January 2012 was OSU's Fiesta Bowl win, but I've already written about that.
-Matt planned a special date day for us one Saturday. We went ice skating, to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie, and out to dinner. Nathan spent the day and night at my parents' house, so we got several hours of uninterrupted quality time together that day. It was fun doing special things together just the two of us.
-The next Saturday we drove to Stillwater to take Nathan to his first OSU basketball game. We watched the OSU Cowgirls play OU. Matt's parents and my grandparents were at the game too. We decided to go to the game for the sole reason of spending time with our families, but it turned out to be a great game, the last two minutes, anyway, and OSU came away with another Bedlam win! Nathan was a little uneasy with the crowds and noise. He stayed pretty close to me the whole game.
Matt had fun playing with his new camera lens. He got some great shots. We were up in the second level on the opposite side of the court, and he was able to get this close!
We sure have had some fun memories inside that arena. Back when our men's basketball team was good (like Final Four good), Matt and I got season tickets one year in college. It is such a fun atmosphere. We're glad Nathan got to experience a touch of that excitement.
-We booked our vacation this month! We had been throwing around vacation ideas for several weeks. We were all over the country, literally, but we finally nailed it down and booked it. This May Matt and I will be celebrating our anniversary with a cruise to the Bahamas! We are super excited. Our good friends are cruising with us and I know it will be a great week. We are most looking forward to this:
Our cruise ship docks at Nassau, and we booked the shore excursion that gives us access to the Atlantis water park for the day. We have been dreaming of going to Atlantis for several years, but the price is just too high to get to and stay and eat at the resort for any length of time, so we were thrilled that this was an option (that's what sealed the deal for us to take a cruise for our vacation). Hopefully we'll get a full experience with just one day there, or if not, we'll probably be saving our pennies to go back at some point.
-We also drove to OKC last Saturday with Matt and Erica to get together with the Evetts. We had a great time catching up with them. We visited at the mall for a while and then had dinner at Olive Garden. We sure miss Brandon and Mindy since they've moved and are thankful for their continued friendship despite the distance.
-We've had hardly any snow this month, just a tiny dusting one morning. Nathan is too young to really play in it anyway. The weather has been unseasonably warm which has been nice, but I do sort of miss the snow. I don't want massive amounts of it, but one good snow storm would be fun.
Outside of these few special things, life has been pretty normal this month. I spend most of my days chasing Nathan around the house and listening to him giggle. My Ladies Bible Study started back this month after several weeks off for the holidays. Matt and I have been reading good books in our spare time, and spending most of our evenings at home relaxing after Nathan goes to bed. Maybe January isn't such a bad month after all, but I will admit, I'm pretty partial to February, although May might be turning into my favorite month of all.

First Haircut
Nathan's hair has started to get out of control lately. It was getting close to hitting his eyebrows and had been growing over his ears for awhile. So last Thursday, Daddy took a stab at giving him his first haircut.
Nathan did pretty good for the first couple of minutes. We distracted him with food, and that seemed to help.
But then, about half way through, he had had enough.
We took him out of the high chair and I held him for the rest of the haircut, which added extra challenges. The scissors scared him sometimes. He was so tired, he finally half fell asleep near the end of the hair cut.
It just took a couple of clips from the scissors for my baby to transform into a big boy.
I can't get over how much that little haircut changed his look. He looks all grown up now :(.

Let's Fiesta!
I'm a little behind in posting this, but I wanted to blog about the Fiesta Bowl because it was such a great memory for us! OSU had an incredible season this year filled with so many accomplishments, Beating Texas and OU in the same season, Big 12 Champions, highest ranking in the BCS in school history, I could go on and on. Minus one terrible game, it was a great season, and Matt and I had been anxiously awaiting the grand finale that happened last Monday night, the Fiesta Bowl against Stanford.
My grandparents drove up to watch the game with us. Matt's sister joined us too along with several of our OSU friends. We had 13 adults and 2 babies at our house to cheer on the Cowboys Monday night.
Nathan wasn't sure what was going on but he loved all the attention he got from everyone.
We had lots of great game food. I spent Sunday baking up some fun orange treats for the game.
Rhapsody and Missy (who was spending the week with us) enjoyed all the food too.
I didn't get any pictures of all our friends dressed in orange camped in front of the TV, but it was such a fun night. My emotions were ALL over the place during that game. Before the game, I was really confident in our team and thought a victory was fairly certain. Then I thought I overlooked the talent on the Stanford team, particularly in their quarterback, but our defense was able to stop, uh, er, I mean our offense scored more points than him, and in the end we came out Fiesta Bowl Champions.
We were down two touchdowns early and were playing catchup the whole game. We stayed in it, but could never get ahead, which meant I was nervous the whole game. We had some great plays, an interception, a fumble recovery and a couple of sacks on defense, and some huge Weeden to Blackmon connections on offense. The best offensive play was Weeden's rushing touchdown. I laughed because when our offense lined up there were five receivers and no running back, so I turned to Matt and said, "Looks like we're gonna throw it," to which he responded, "Well you KNOW Weeden's not going to run it." And then he did and scored and it was awesome. I just know Weeden had been begging Coach Gundy all month to let him run the ball. Pretty much the only thing missing in his resume was a rushing touchdown.
Near the end of the game, I was losing confidence in our guys. I tried to downplay the significance of the game, about what an achievement it was to make it there, and how we hadn't embarrassed ourselves, and the outcome didn't matter too much. And then we made a huge play, and I was right back in it, ready for a victory.
At the end of the game, we just knew Stanford was going to make the game winning field goal as time ran out. As they lined up to kick, My grandpa said, "Boy it will be a miracle if we win this game." And then the kick was no good. All I saw was orange people in the end zone cheering and we went nuts, enough to wake up my sleeping baby. Poor boy, football season is tough on him. Once we went into overtime, I had renewed confidence in my team. They know how to play when it really matters. It was such a great game and a great win to cap off an extraordinary season for my team. I've stood by them for almost nine years of mostly disappointing seasons. So as a fan, it was fun to be rewarded with such an exhilarating game. We will miss spending our weekends wearing orange, inviting friends over to watch the games, and watching Sportscenter highlights during lunch on Sundays until September rolls around again.

Eight Months Old
My Sweet Nathan,
We've reached the eight month mark already. These last couple of months have been oh so fun with you. This
age is just a really neat time. You learn new things constantly and we
see your personality in so many different ways. I can't believe how much
you have learned in just the last month.
You started crawling right around the time you celebrated your seventh month birthday, and you have spent the last month perfecting it. You are a fast little booger. If I turn my back for just one minute you are off exploring usually getting into some kind of mischief. You crawl all over the house, and you pick up speed when you see something you really want.
You do not like it when I shower in the mornings. You will be playing happily on the bathroom floor, but as soon as I hop in the shower and shut the door, you immediately start fussing and crawl over to the shower door and fuss and whine until I get out. You silly boy, I never leave you for very long.
Not only are you exploring and experiencing new things from your increased mobility, you are also exploring new tastes and textures at meal times. Some of the new foods you've tried this month include broccoli, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, potatoes, yogurt, meat (chicken and turkey), puffs, yogurt melts, crackers, and apple juice. You remain a great eater. It took you a few days to figure out finger foods, but you have got the concept down now. You haven't got the pincer reflex down yet, but you have the raking reflex down great. You'll grasp the food in your palm and stick your fist in your mouth. Sometimes you can't get the food in your mouth because it's hidden inside your closed fist. You are figuring it out quickly though. We also introduced the sippy cup this month and you are doing well with that too. You do much better with it when I fill it with juice instead of water :).
After Christmas, I decided to wean you. I still get sad about it sometimes, but we were both ready. You had lost interest in nursing and were doing great with a bottle, and I don't think you were getting a whole lot while you nursed anyway. You are just growing up and getting more independent everyday. I still nurse you in the morning, but that probably won't last much longer. For most of the month, you would wake up between 5:30 and 6 and I would bring you to our room and you would nurse and and we would snuggle and snooze until 7 or 7:30. I always went back and forth on whether we were getting into a bad habit with letting you get up early and bringing you into our room, but since I weaned you, I don't regret that decision one bit. You are only little for such a short amount of time and I'm not going to feel bad for spoiling you and spending that extra time with you.
Your feeding schedule is pretty similar to last month. You still eat about 5 times a day.
7-7:30 Breakfast- fruit with yogurt, oatmeal, or rice cereal and a 6 oz bottle
10:30-11 Lunch- fruit and vegetable and a 6 oz bottle
You have a bottle between lunch and dinner usually around 2:00
4:30-5 Dinner- Meat and a vegetable (we just introduced meats about a week ago) and a 6 oz bottle
7:30-8 Bedtime- 6 oz bottle.

You are still a social little lovebug and don't mind going to anyone. Your daddy and I have noticed this month though that if you are sleepy or not feeling very good, you prefer me. You'll reach for me, or if I'm holding you and someone wants to take you, you'll turn your head and latch onto me. I don't mind that at all, little one, but your daddy gets a little disappointed at times when you want me instead of him. I always tell him that we have different roles as parents and I enjoy being the comforter and nurturer while he is the fun, playful parent.
One of your favorite places to be is on your Daddy's shoulders. You laugh and squeal anytime he puts you up there. Unfortunately, you really like to pull his hair while you ride up there, so your ride gets cut short sometimes.
Speaking of your dad, he is enjoying you more and more these days. He's loved you like crazy since you were born but he prefers the older baby stage to the newborn stage. He likes playing with you and hearing you laugh when he tosses you in the air or plays peekaboo with you.
We moved you up to the next nursery class at church this month. That was hard on your momma. Changes are bittersweet for me, and that transition was just another sign of how quickly you change. The 7-13 month class is a better fit for you though. You had been a little fussy that last few weeks in the nursery and I think it was that you were bored of being held and wanted down to play and move around. You are the smallest one in your new class, and I know you will learn a lot from watching the older babies.
Life is a new adventure everyday with you, and it is one of my greatest joys watching you grow and learn.

If I turn my back for just one minute you are off exploring usually getting into some kind of mischief. You crawl all over the house, and you pick up speed when you see something you really want.
Your increased mobility has brought out a mischievous side of you. It seems you are constantly getting into things that are off limits. Your favorite things right now are Rhapsody's doggie door and her water bowl, the trash can in the office, the computer and computer cords, the dishwasher, and the magazines on the end table in the living room (they have since been moved because of you).
You are also pulling up on everything. We've caught you pulling up in your crib, the coffee table, couch, recliners, dishwasher, bathtub and anything else that you can reach. You've taken a couple of steps after pulling up, but usually you just look around or try to reach things you are not supposed to be touching.
In the last couple of weeks you have learned how to transition from
the crawling position to sitting. You look like a big boy when you do
that. Before you could go from crawling to sitting, you would crawl over
to me and lift one hand up for me to pick you up. I'm a little sad you
don't do that anymore. It was precious. You do not like it when I shower in the mornings. You will be playing happily on the bathroom floor, but as soon as I hop in the shower and shut the door, you immediately start fussing and crawl over to the shower door and fuss and whine until I get out. You take two naps a day. You usually go down for your morning nap around 9:30 and sleep for about 1-1.5 hours. You afternoon nap is usually any time between 1-2:30 and lasts about an hour and a half.
Your thighs are ticklish. I can almost guarantee some giggles any time I tickle them.
Bath time is one of your favorite times of the day. When I bring you into the bathroom, you immediately start smiling and crawl right to the bathtub and pull up like you can't wait to dive in. You'll play for a long time before you are ready to get out. I hate getting you out because I can't get you dried off and in your jammies fast enough before you get cold. You shiver some while your daddy or I are getting you in your pajamas, and it breaks my heart.
You are talking all the time and making some new sounds. Dadadada is
still your favorite, but I've heard a lot of gagaga recently and even
some babababa. Maybe mama is coming soon...
This last
month, I packed up your 0-6 month clothes along with your bouncy seat,
bumbo, boppy, and swing. I can't believe how many things you have
outgrown already. This time last year I was researching good baby
products to register for and now we are packing a lot of them away and
praying we might have a need for them sometime again if the Lord decides
to bless us with a brother or sister for you someday in the future.
You
are wearing 6 month, 6-9 month and 9 month clothes. The 6-9 and 9 month
clothes fit you best. All your 6 month pants are too short, but I'm
keeping them around for a little while longer. You had so many cute 6
month clothes that I'm not ready for you to stop wearing them. I've also been waiting for the Christmas rush to die down
before I venture out to pick you up a few new things. Your 9 month section in your closet is pretty sparse right now. You wear a size 3
diaper. You don't go back to the doctor for another month, so I don't
have official stats, but based on weighing you at home on our scale you
weigh between 17.5-18lbs.

2011 in Review
2011 was a momentous year for our little family filled with the most change we have experienced since "The Baughers" came to be. Back in 2008 we had a pretty big year- both graduated from college and ended our careers as students, started new jobs, moved to a new city, bought a house, and got a dog, but I think 2011might have beat it. Here is a look back at our year.
January
- My parents closed on their new house in Broken Arrow (6 miles from our house)
February
- We survived a blizzard that canceled school for two weeks and delayed one of Matt's flights to Florida for a couple of days. I have fondness for the blizzard that changed Matt's 5 day trip to a quick 3 day one.
- We celebrated my 26th birthday
- We spent the weekend in Kansas City for my birthday/"babymoon"
- We were blessed with a family baby shower for Nathan in Weatherford
March

- Matt turned 28
June
-Matt celebrated 3 years at FlightSafety and earned a promotion and a raise (I was pleased to see all his hard work in Florida didn't go unnoticed).
- Matt made a long weekend trip to Florida
- While he was gone, Nathan took his first car trip to Weatherford to spend time with his great grandparents
July
- We welcomed our niece, Amelia Jane into the world and into our family
August
- Nathan and I traveled to Iowa with my parents to meet baby Amelia

Christmas, Part 3
All ready for church
We kept Nathan with us during the church service since it was Christmas. By the end of the service, Matt and I were both thankful for the nursery ministry at our church. My little guy likes to play and explore and being held and having to be quiet for so long is hard for him. Matt took him out to let him play near the end of the service. It was a special time to all be together as a family though.
After church we went over to my parents' house to eat lunch and open gifts.

I was happy to get these two babies together again!
Matt's big surprise was a new camera lens. He had seen them on sale a
couple of week ago. It was a huge sale and he really debated just buying
one but decided to wait. I called my mom when we got home from the
store and told her about it. She was excited because she had needed to
get him one more thing in that price range, so she ran out and got the
last one. He got some Christmas money from his parents and we even went
to Target on Christmas Eve for him to buy it if it was still on sale (I
knew it wasn't on sale anymore, but I wanted him to think he wasn't
getting one, so I played along). He told me it was his favorite gift
this Christmas.
Once again Nathan was spoiled with new toys. My mom even threw some
extra bows in a couple of his gifts. He is still playing with those
bows.
Nathan got a Noah's Ark play set with lots of animals. He has a Precious Moments Noah's Ark on the shelf in his room that he loves to look at. I won't let him play with it though, so now he has his own to play with.
He also got a drum from my parents. I think Matt wanted the drum to stay at Grammy's house.
My big surprise was a Roomba.
I actually guessed it. My mom hinted that it needed batteries, and this
was the only thing I could think of. I knew I was wrong, but I told her
my guess anyway, and I was right! Once I guessed it though, she threw
me off by wrapping another one of my gifts and telling me it was the big
one. Then I just knew I was getting a new knife set, but the Roomba is even better! I can't wait to try it out.
We spent the rest of the afternoon taking care of babies and opening
our stocking gifts. Nathan posed for lots of pictures too. He is a
little ham especially when he receives constant attention from everyone.
We let Nathan try mashed potatoes for the first time on Christmas (before the potatoes become Pioneer Woman-ified). He didn't mind them, but he seems to prefer his sweet potatoes.
After dinner we dressed the babies in their matching Christmas jammies and snapped some pictures.
Nathan was enamored with his little cousin and kept grabbing at her and trying to kiss her. It will be fun when they get older and start playing together.
Jeremy and Anna left later that morning. We went back home shortly after they left. We were worn out. Nathan and I both napped that afternoon and got all our new toys put away and the house back in some sort of order. It was a busy few days filled with such joy as we celebrated the birth of our Savior with the people who are most precious to us.
