After a very rough last month of summer, we were all excited about our annual beach trip at the beginning of September. I felt like the Lord was so kind in allowing us to have this vacation on our calendar at the perfect time.
We drove all day Sunday and made it to Florida late Sunday afternoon. Katherine made up a song about the beach as we drove to our Condo.
We unloaded the car, changed and hit the beach!
We were back at the beach early Monday morning.
Snacks on the beach just hit differently.
Nathan spent most of his time in the water with the boogie board.
It was windy enough to attempt kite flying.
And no beach day is complete without a sand castle.
Lunch on our balcony is one of my favorite parts of our vacations. The food tastes so good after a morning on the beach, and the view just can't be beat.
Monday evening we cleaned up and went to Floyd's for dinner. We were all craving some fish and shrimp.
The wiki sticks are always a favorite at Floyds. We were disappointed they didn't serve their kids' meals on frisbees anymore and a little more disappointed in the food. It definitely wasn't as good as we remembered.
Matt drove into Destin on Tuesday morning to pick up donuts at our all time favorite donut shop.
This picture feels like heaven to me. A delicious donut with a spectacular view of the ocean. It's perfection!
Add in these four Cuties, and it's even more perfect.
After our donuts, we packed up and headed back down to the beach for another day of fun. The water was pretty calm, but the kids were able to catch a few waves.
We also spent a lot of time out floating in the water. Matt and I talked about how different these vacations are now that the kids are older. We used to have to take turns taking kids out in the ocean, so one of us could stay on shore with the babies/toddlers. We also used to spend way less time at the beach and more time at the pool.
We saw some big jelly fish. Thankfully, we avoided any major incidents with them.
Elisabeth asked me to have a sand bake off competition with her. We set a time limit and both made as many sand desserts as we could, and then Katherine judged us.
Nathan even took a rare nap. The beach tuckers all of us out.
I love it when I catch this girl reading for fun. We're still working on developing that habit.
Tuesday afternoon we all went to play Goofy Golf and then to Stewbys for dinner.
The kids made up their minds to build a swimming pool in the sand complete with a way for the waves to fill up the pool. They were so determined and worked for hours on it.
We headed up for lunch and dessert and then had a lazy afternoon.
Goofy Golf is one of our favorite vacation traditions!
