We traveled to Weatherford for a week in July to visit family and attend the Evetts' VBS in Corn. This is our third year, and it was just as great as the last two.
We drove to Weatherford Sunday afternoon, and the kids went to their first night of VBS on Sunday evening. They always look forward to Granny's snacks after VBS each night.
On Monday we spent most of the day in Cordell playing with our friends. The girls set up a hair salon, put on a play and played together all day.
They took a quick break from playing to eat lunch.
Their snack for evening at VBS was fruit in these cute goblets. They got to take them home and were toasting each other as we left that night.
We spent some time with Matt's parents on Tuesday. The kids found some fun toys to play with.
We were back at the Evetts on Wednesday. The next generation is playing Seven Wonders now. I love it!
We spent Wednesday afternoon swimming together and then were back at VBS that evening.
Thursday we spent a few hours at Momoo's house. Katherine rocked out on the guitar. We had a good visit which always includes pizza and chocolate cake.
Katherine came back and crashed on Thursday afternoon. We played some games with Granny and Grandaddy that afternoon too. Rummikub, Fast Track and Skipbo are our favorites.
The kids also built a fort in the basement. It took me back to my childhood. Jeremy and I built lots of forts down there too.
They each had their own room in their fort.
When Katherine woke up she built a mountain with a waterfall to contribute.
Thursday evening was the last night of VBS. It went so quickly!
The kids had a little program Thursday night and sung some of the songs they had learned that week. I love hearing their little voices singing truth about God's Word.
So grateful that my kids have made such core memories with their great grandparents. What a gift!
The kids showed us all the fun things they did during the week.
And Katherine was star struck when she got to talk to the princess and touch her crown.

We drove home on Friday morning. Katherine had to say goodbye to her bunnies- Bunny and Choo Choo. She always gets so attached to them during her visits to Granny and Grandaddy's house.
We were grateful for such a fun filled week of summer.
The kids and I took a day this summer and went on an advetnure to the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum in Seminole. We had visited one other time four years ago, and I'd been wanting to take them back for several years. We had an open week due to a disappointing cancelation of a music camp all my kids were looking forward to, so we planned for a fun day. It did not disappoint!
We arrived that morning just after if opened and stayed ALL day long. The museum is full of lots of little interactive areas that simulate real life things like a mechanic, surgeon, pediatric nursery, pet care, a courtroom, grocery store, airplane, and on and on. The kids were immersed in play all day long.
Even a bed of nails!
The kids are big enough now that they don't require constant supervision, but I still encouraged them to stick with a sibling. For the most part these two were together for most of the day. Katherine is able to bring out some childishness in Nathan that is fleeting these days. I'm grateful he still enjoys play, especially with his sister.
The museum had an awesome little theater complete with costumes, makeup, tickets, scene changes, and music and lighting effects. Right up their alley!
Of course, we had to ride the train. I think the kids have mostly outgrown it though.
At any children's museum we ever visit, this is always Samuel's favorite exhibit. He can build with these giant foam blocks for hours.
We took a break midday and ate the lunch we packed, and then the kids were back at playing.
The museum was pretty crowded with day care groups in the morning, but by midafternoon, it had emptied out, and the kids were freely able to play with whatever they wanted.
Nathan built a huge brick wall.
The kids held several court cases. They even pulled in new friends to have more people to play with them.
Samuel built part of a house with plumbing and electrical. He has a passion for all things building/designing.
Elisabeth and Samuel asked to play Supermarket Sweep. I gave them a list of items they had to find, and I timed how quickly they found everything- I know everyone is shocked that they can turn anything into a competition.

Nathan and Samuel spent a lot of time at this water area, making dams, rerouting the water.
Nathan and Katherine successfully landed the airplane.
By the end of the day, since the theater was open, the kids practiced and performed a silly little show. Katherine was all about the makeup.
Goofballs can put on a good show. Elisabeth asked a staff member if he wanted to watch her show, and he ended up making an announcement on the speaker system for all staff members to come watch the play.
I had to drag the kids away 15 minutes prior to the museum closing. They played hard for over 6.5 hours. I'm a big believer in play being the work of childhood, and those kids worked hard on our Adventure Day. It was a joy to watch their creativity, and personalities shine as they explored. It was also a reminder of what a really great stage of childhood they are all in. Their independence and maturity made it an easy day for me (I even read a book for a lot of the day while they played). It's a golden age where they are independent and easy to take places, but they still fully engage in the play of childhood. I'll never take for granted the blessing I have to spend my days with those four awesome kids. We're all ready for another Adventure Day!
