I think Day 3 was everyone's favorite day of our trip. Our main reason for visiting Kansas City was to go to Legoland. We were all excited!!
We had fun exploring and spent over three hours enjoying all the Lego fun!
The Miniland was a neat exhibit.
There were so many stations where the kids could build all different things. There were Legos everywhere.
Nathan and Samuel built their own Lego cars and got to race them.
Elisabeth had fun in the Lego Friends house singing karaoke and making pizzas.
We watched a fun little 4d movie about Lego knights. The kids liked it more than I did, ha!
We all spent a long time at this tile building station. Samuel was so focused on his design. We all ended up helping him finish because he was determined that he would not leave until it was finished.
He was pretty proud when he got to hang it on the wall.
They also had a really fun indoor playground, a train station and train track where the kids could build trains and two little rides. Elisabeth was a fan of the rides. She would have ridden it all day if Daddy would have let her.
We played and built and explored until we were all starving for lunch. I think we probably would have stayed longer if our tummies weren't all grumbling. Everyone in our family had a great time which made it a great day for us. All the kids were just darting around going from one area to the next immersed in their play. We can't wait to go back sometime!
We went back to the mall for lunch and then went to a little Thomas the Train exhibit that was in the mall. We lucked out with good timing that the exhibit was there while we were visiting because they all loved it.
Matt and I kept wondering what our little two year old train lover Nathan would have thought of something like that (and the train restaurant too) when he was obsessed
with trains. I still get a little sad about how fast he grew out of that
stage.
Afterward we headed back to the hotel so Elisabeth could nap and then down to the water park for the last time.
We had another pizza picnic in our hotel and let the boys break out the big Legos, ha!
Tuesday we headed home from vacation. We didn't forget about Baby Sister on our trip. We stopped at Ikea before we left town and bought her a dresser for her nursery :)
Then we grabbed lunch and drove home. It was a bit of a whirlwind and we actually had a to shift our plans a bit because we got home Tuesday evening and Matt left town Wednesday afternoon for a conference and came home late Friday night. Then I left town on Sunday for a couple of days. But I'm so glad we didn't push off our vacation because it was full of special memories and tons of fun. I love that little (big) family of mine :).
Sunday morning after a fun breakfast at the hotel, we headed out for another fun day.
Our first stop on Sunday was the Sea Life aquarium. We had fun exploring lots of sea creatures. It was a fun (overpriced) outing.
Elisabeth was brave enough to touch a star fish. She was proud of herself.
This little bubble was the kids' favorite part. They kept saying, "We're fish, we're fish!'
We stopped and spent a lot of time playing with this Lego sand castle. It was a good practice for Legoland :).
At the end of the museum, the kids could color their own sea creature and then watch it swim on the screen.
The aquarium is connected to Legoland (which was our plan for day 3), but Nathan could not wait to buy some new Legos. He's been saving money for months to take to Legoland. He saved most of his birthday money and all the other money he's earned and had a chunk of cash that was burning a hole in his pocket. He ended up buying two sets, and Samuel and Elisabeth got some new Legos too. The Lego store was definitely a highlight of Nathan's vacation.
After the aquarium and Lego store, we headed across the street for lunch. I had heard about a super fun train restaurant that we were all excited to try.
The kids were pumped about the conductor hats.
But the best part was that a train delivered our lunch to us. The kids were fascinated and watched every time a train drove past us wondering when it would be our turn for lunch. It was super fun, and the food was actually really good too.
After lunch we walked around a few stores at the Crown Center and stopped for dessert, of course :)
.Then it was back to the hotel to rest and then to the water park of course.
We played until the kids were worn out and then headed back to our room for a pizza picnic.
And to break open the Legos of course :).
I really loved how relaxing and low key this trip was compared to Disney World. I mean I loved Disney, but we were on the go from 7:00am until 10-11:00pm everyday. I wouldn't have done it any differently, because we didn't want to miss out on anything, but it was nice on this vacation to have a lot of down time to swim, relax and play with our new toys. We were always back in the room for the night by 7:00 and never had any early mornings. It was a nice change of pace.
